Buhari arrives at Aso Rock where Goodluck gives him a grand tour of presidential villa

altPRESIDENT-elect Muhammadu Buhari has arrived at the presidential villa in Abuja known as Aso Rock for a tour of the facility ahead of his impending moving in tomorrow after the swearing-in ceremony.

Having just flown in from London where he spent the last six days, General Buhari landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja this morning. He drove straight to Aso Rock where he met with outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan, who gave him a tour of the vast presidential villa.

Both leaders then met behind closed doors inside the president’s office, where it is believed they thrashed out the details of tomorrow's handover ceremony. Last week, General Buhari flew out of Nigeria suddenly in the company of two of his close aides, ostensibly to get away from the pressure that had been brought to bear on him by members of his party the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It is believed that while he was in the UK, General Buhari put finishing touches to the make-up of his cabinet having rejected names submitted to him by the APC governors. Party members, state governors and varied interest groups had laid siege to him over recent weeks as the lobbying for posts in his government intensified.

However, general Buhari had made it clear to them that no part of the Nigerian constitution compels him to accept ministerial lists submitted to him by state governors. During the outgoing Peoples Democratic Party's tenure in office, state governors submitted three names to the president, out of which he appointed one to the cabinet and the two others to differing roles like ministers of state or ambassadors.
