Buhari appoints Ahmed Idris as new accountant-general after examining 60 candidates

altPRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Mallam Ahmed Idris as the new accountant-general of the federation after he successfully emerged from a rigid selection process that involved about 60 candidates sitting examinations.

 

Mallam Idris, who hails from Kano State, was born on November 25, 1960 and was until his appointment, the director of finance and accounts in the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development. He takes over with immediate effect from Jonah Otunla, who resigned on June 12.

 

Haruna Imrana, the director of communications in the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, confirmed that examinations were conducted for prospective candidates for the position. Apparently, all directors of finance and accounts and from all the ministries, numbering over 60, attended the first round of examinations.

 

Mr Imrana said: "The head of the civil service of the federation Barrister Danladi Kifasi who announced the appointment, said it takes effect from the 25th of June 2015.” Apparently, about 20 candidates were eventually dropped after the first sitting and the process continued until the examiners agreed on a final candidate.
