UNIVERSITY of Port Harcourt (Uniport) authorities have confirmed that Abia State legislator Hon Emeka Nnamani forged a certificate from the institution with which he got elected to represent the Aba North Constituency.
During the last elections, Hon Nnamani of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (Apga) was elected after submitting the necessary documentation with his form to the Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec). However, his People’s Democratic Party (PDP) opponent Dr (Mrs) Blessing Nwagba is challenging his election, saying that it should be ruled invalid as he lied about his academic qualifications.
In her petition to the National and State Assembly Election Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, Dr Nwagba claimed that Hon Nnamani forged a Uniport certificate, which he submitted to Inec for the April 2015 elections. Now, the university authorities have come out to confirm her allegation, saying that the lawmaker was never one of their students.
Hon Nnamani, who is alleged to be a member of the PDP in his native Enugu State, contested the election as an Apga candidate in Abia State where he resides. After Dr Nwagba made her allegations, the Uniport's registrar disowned the lawmaker, saying he did not graduate from the institution.
Yesterday, the tribunal headed by Justice Yahuzu admitted in evidence a letter from the Uniport registrar disowning Hon Nnamani as a graduate of the university. Justice Yahuzu has adjourned the matter to 24th and 27th of August for the respondent to begin his defence and respond to the allegations made against him.
