AFRICA'S richest man Aliko Dangote has list his adoptive daughter Fatima Bello Dangote who passed away in the UK over the weekend finally succumbing to a year battle with brain cancer.
Fatima died on the October 2, at a private hospital in the UK where she was being treated. She was the daughter of Dangote's younger brother, Alhaji Bello Dangote, who died in 1996 alongside the son of late head of state, General Sani Abacha, Ibrahim Abacha, in a plane crash on the January 17 1996.
Upon the death of her father, Alhaji Dangote brought Fatima up and trained her through university. She has since been buried in London according to Islamic rites.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Dangote declared yesterday that he had no interest in actively participating in politics, saying business and politics should never be mixed. Speaking during a condolence visit to the Awolowo family over the death of their matriarch Hannah Awolowo at the family’s residence in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, the business mogul said that the set of skills required to become successful in business differed from those of politics.
Alhaji Dangote said: “I can’t be in politics because they say when you want to clap, you need two hands. If all of us in business go into politics, then who is going to create the jobs?
“We are in the private sector, so we should be creating jobs, while the government should be creating good policies and also ensuring that we are not taking advantage of the poor. They are doing what they know how to do best and we are also doing what we know how to do best, with each being a master in its own terrain.”
He advised that Nigerians should not worry too much about the fall in oil prices, saying that the economy would soon become stable through the austerity measures adopted by the government. According to Alhaji Dangote, during the oil boom, when a barrel of oil sold above $100, there were too many leakages which the federal government is now trying to resolve by plugging them.
