London's Tottenham Hotspurs open talks with Golden Eaglets striker Victor Osimhen

altENGLISH Premiership side Tottenham Hotspurs have opened talks with Nigeria's Ultimate Strikers Academy with a view to signing up Golden Eaglets striker Victor Osimhen and bringing him to White Hart Lane.

Osimhen, 16, has been the revelation of the ongoing Fifa U17 World Cup currently taking place in Chile, matching the tournament's highest ever tally of nine goals. Tonight, when Nigeria plays Mali in the final, if Osimhen scores, he will become the highest ever goalscorer in a Fifa U17 World Cup.

Apart from his ruthlessness in front of goal, Osimhen, who has scored in every game of the tournament so far, is also a great targetman, who holds the ball up all brilliantly, allowing teammates to be brought into play. He is also very powerful in the air, where he wins a majority of headers.

Given his all round scintillating performance, Tottenham are showing keen interest in him and have opened talks with his academy in Nigeria. Scouts from across Europe have been tracking the player but it is Spurs who have made contact with his representatives.

Osimhen idolises former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba and is eager to follow in his footsteps by becoming a success in the English Premier League. Arsenal and Manchester City have also been watching Osimhen closely but are believed to be concentrating on his international team-mate and captain Kelechi Nwakali.

Both Osimhen and Nwakali were on target for the Eaglets on Thursday when they beat Mexico 4-2 in the semi-final. Osimhen has been a total revelation, however, scoring a hat-trick against Australia in the second round of the tournament.
