Lagosian kills best friend in fatal fight amid row over affairs with each other's wives

altMEN of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested Lukman Jimoh for killing his best friend Remi Oloyede after the two of them were involved in a fatal fight amid allegations that one was sleeping with the other's wife.

In a terrible tragedy, Mr Jimoh, 40, popularly called Oyeolorun, killed his friend earlier this week at Adedoja Street in the Mushin area of the state by cutting off his ears and stabbing him in the neck and eyes. Both men were said to have been involved in a fight over claims by the deceased that his friend betrayed him by sleeping with his wife.

Mr Oloyede, 38, alias Ora, reportedly died on the spot after losing much blood, while his corpse was deposited in a morgue in the state. Mr Jimoh, who was taken to a clinic for medical attention due to the injuries he also sustained in the fight, was later arrested by policemen from the Alakara Division of the Nigeria Police Force.

Apparently, fearful local residents stayed away from the duo during the fight because they both wielded bottles. It was learnt that during an argument that ensued, the deceased broke a bottle, picked a splinter and challenged his friend to a duel but  Jimoh, who had initially hesitated, was said to have been compelled to strike back after the deceased attacked him.

One eyewitness said:  “Oyeolorun and Ora Oloyede have been friends for a long time now and they were both living on this street before Oyeolorun relocated to Sango, Ogun State, where he is staying with his family. However, about three years ago, Oyeolorun allegedly had sexual relations with Ora’s wife and he was very angry about it and from that time, he started looking for a way to get back at him for betraying him.

“To get even, he slept with Oyeolorun’s first wife but Oyeolorun had already divorced the woman. Ora was still angry and seeking opportunity for revenge.”

Bunmi Osunde, another local resident, said the two friends started having clashes over minor issues and that the last straw that broke the camel’s back was an issue over a handset. Police spokesman Dolapo Badmos, conformed the incident and said investigations into the murder were ongoing.
