WEST Ham striker Emmanuel Emenike has ruled out returning to the Super Eagles despite new coach Samson Siasia indicating that he would be prepared to invite the striker back into the squad for the forthcoming African Nations Cup qualifiers against Egypt.
Last year, Emenike retired from international football following disagreements with Super eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh. Last week, however, Oliseh resigned following repeated disagreements with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and U23 coach Siasia has been put in temporary charge of the team.
Siasia will be in charge of the two-legged home-and-away Nations Cup qualifier against Egypt taking place on March 23 and 29 and has said he will re-invite players who retired under Oliseh like Emenike and former skipper Vincent Enyeama. However, Emenike has said he will not be honouring the invitation as he did not just quit because of disagreements with Oliseh.
Emenike said: “I’m done with the Super Eagles and I am making it clear again that I am not going back. It’s my decision and I am not going to reverse it and I am sorry if I have offended anybody regarding this but no Eagles return for me.
"I didn’t quit because of anybody, it was a personal decision. Oliseh didn’t force me out of the Super Eagles as it was reported and I don't need anybody to speak with me before I take a decision, as it was my decision and I won’t reverse it."
In the January transfer window, Emenike joined English Premiership side West Ham on loan with a view to extending his stay at the end of the season. Emenike, who was Nigeria's leading goalscorer during the 2013 Nations Cup, is now hoping to focus on his club career.
