ALEX Iwobi might have cemented a place in the Super Eagles starting line-up against Egypt next week after putting in a sterling display for Arsenal in his first ever Uefa Champions League start yesterday.
Iwobi, 19, was a surprise inclusion in the Arsenal starting line-up yesterday and despite the fact that the Gunners lost 1-3 and 5-1 on aggregate, he equipped himself well. He has been invited by Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia for the two legged tie against Egypt on the 25th and 29th and with his current form may likely start.
Former Super Eagles captain JJ Okocha's nephew, Iwobi featured for 72 minutes yesterday and was not phased despite being up against the likes of Neymar, Messi and Suarez in the Nou Camp. In the 35th minute of the game Iwobi had a penalty claim dismissed after he tumbled in the Barca box while being pursued by Javier Mascherano.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said: “I have to say we played against a team with the best strikers I’ve seen. The three are exceptional and from nothing they can create a chance, so we have to admire art and they have two or three players that transform normal life into art.”
Following the defeat, Iwobi will now participate in one more league game against Everton this weekend before joining the rest of the Eagles in Abuja. Other English Premiership players who will be in the party will include Chelsea's Mikel Obi, Odion Ighalo of Watford, Victor Moses of West Ham and Kelechi Iheanacho of Manchester City.
