SUPER Eagles skipper Ahmed Musa has confessed that he would fancy playing for Arsenal in the English Premiership next season as he is likely to move from his current club CSKA Moscow at the end of the current campaign.
During the January transfer window, Premier League leaders Leicester City had a $21.6m (£15.1m) bid for Musa rejected by CSKA Moscow who value the winger at about $27m (£18.9m). Musa, 23, currently has a $32.5m (£22.8m) buyout clause in his contract, which runs until 2019, meaning that any club which bids for this amount can have him.
After Leicester's failed bid, Manchester United were said to have made enquiries about the pacey winger but CSKA refused to budge, insisting that their valuation of the player be met before he is released. At the end of the season, several Premiership sides are expected to renew their interest in Musa, who said he would rather join the Gunners.
Musa said: I would be happy if I was wanted by Arsenal as I have supported the team since the age of six. Nwankwo Kanu has been my idol since childhood, so it will be fantastic to play for Arsenal.
“I will not hide it, Leicester actually came to our club but I repeat that I want to finish the season with CSKA to help them to win a championship and then think about changing teams. I do not care but Musa has to play as I cannot sit on the bench, so I will have to go to the Premier League club that will believe in me.”
Late last year, Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh made him team captain, although it is not yet clear if he will retain the armband under new coach Samson Siasia. Musa has scored 10 goals in 29 games this season and 11 times in 56 appearances for Nigeria.
