PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has extended his 10-day health trip to the UK by a further three days to enable him recuperate from the treatment he had on an ear infection that was impairing his hearing.
Last week, President Buhari travelled to London for a 10-break break to have an infection on a nagging ear problem treated and to recuperate from the operation. President Buhari is reported to be seriously ill with Meniere Disease that has hampered his hearing in his left ear and he is also said to suffer from a cough.
Under the original plan, President Buhari was supposed to return to Nigeria yesterday but his stay has now been extended to Sunday, leaving vice president Professor Yemi Osinbajo as acting president. Yesterday, Professor Osinbajo told the National Economic Council in Abuja that President Buhari would extend his stay in order to recuperate fully.
Professor Osinbajo added: “He will be back on Sunday and there is no point rushing back on Friday, so he will just take the weekend off. He is in perfect health and ready to resume work on Monday morning.
“I spoke with him yesterday evening and I think it is just the best that he takes the weekend off. Mr President is in good condition, he is fine, and he is very well."
During his stay in London, President Buhari was visited by the Archbishop of Canterbury Rt Reverend Justin Welby who paid him a courtesy visit ay Abuja House, the Nigerian high commissioner's official residence. Yesterday, he was also visited by the All Progressives Congress leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
