Lagos hospital detains mother of triplets over her inability to clear her full medical bill

altLAGOS housewife Gloria Okore has been detained by the management of a private hospital in Lagos over her inability to settle outstanding medical bills after she recently delivered triplets at the facility.

Seven weeks after she delivered the three babies, Mrs Okore, 27,  has been unable to settle N35,000 out of N120,000 cists she was charged. On May 10, she delivered two girls and a boy at the Bessylva Hospital and Maternity Home on Surulere Street in Dopemu-Agege, and since then has been begging for help to raise the balance of the money.

Apparently, the babies were delivered pre-term as they were only seven months old and one of the triplets, a female, died two weeks ago as there was no incubator at the facility to save her. Not able to clear the medical bills, Mrs Okore said that due to the hash economic situation in the country, the family needed the goodwill of Nigerians to take care of the babies.

Source at the hospital said Mrs Okore was looking pale and unable to breastfeed her babies and was using an unkempt ward inside the hospital with no medical facilities. She is now asking the members of the public of the government to come to her assistance as neither her nor her husband can raise the necessary cash.

Mrs Okore, said: “I had the triplets through normal delivery but the babies were born prematurely. We were charged N120,000 but my husband hawks fairly-used clothes and it took him time to raise N85,000, which he paid in instalments.

“I am from Owerri in Imo State, while my husband is from Abia State and we got married three years ago. Before I had these triplets, I had twins who died immediately after birth. "

She added that she wants the government to help pay the balance of the hospital bills and also help them with basic necessities. She gave their bank account details as UBA: 2043213179 with the account name as Umeh Okore.
