PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari's wife Aisha has sued Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose for claiming that she was involved in the Halliburton corruption scandal in response to his allegation that she was part of the US bribery scandal.
Last month, it had been alleged that Hadjia Aisha Buhari was involved in the Halliburton bribery scandal in which Nigerian government officials were bribed by US officials to obtain contracts. Governor Fayose had led the claims that Hadjia Buhari was involved in the $185m Halliburton scandal.
He said she was the Aisha Buhari named in a US court document, alleged to have been involved in a bribery case involving a convicted former lawmaker, Williams Jefferson. However, in what appeared to be an error, Governor Fayose referred to the scandal as the Halliburton corruption case but the Halliburton case is different from the Williams Jefferson scandal.
However, Governor Fayose insisted he was right despite Hadjia Buhari’s denial and threat of legal action, Yesterday, Hadjia Buhari served papers against the governor in court and it is believed Governor Fayose has already been served with a summons.
Governor Fayose had said: “The estate the president built in Abuja is known to us. His wife was indicted over the Halliburton Scandal as when that American, Jefferson, was being sentenced, the president’s wife was mentioned as having wired $170,000 to Jefferson.
"Her name was on page 25 of the sentencing of Jefferson. We can serialize the judgment for people to see and read.”
