PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari's biography written by American author John Paden titled Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenge of Leadership in Nigeria is to be presented to the public on October 3 in Abuja.
Professor Paden, a lecturer in international studies who has deep knowledge of Nigeria and its leaders, is not new to the country's history. He is also the author of a book: Ahmadu Bello: Sardauna of Sokoto, a biography of the late premier of the Northern Region, with emphasis on values and leadership in Nigeria, which he wrote in 1986.
He will present President Buhari’s biography at the International Conference Centre Abuja, with the president himself expected to be in attendance. Sources at the presidential villa said that although President Buhari has signified his intention to attend the book launch, he has however, given directive that the event should not be an official event.
“The president has personally written to all the governors intimating them about the launch and asking them to kindly attend if they have the time. We also gathered that Mr Paden is well known to the president for over 30 years, which made it easy for him to have access to the president to gather inputs for the book.
“The president gave him unfettered access and has had long interviews. He really encouraged him by giving him audience,” the source added.
Some other books written by Professor Paden include Postelection Conflict Management in Nigeria: The Challenge of National Unity, Faith and Politics; Nigeria as a Pivotal State in the Muslim World and Muslim Civic Cultures and Conflict Resolution: The Challenges of Democratic Federalism in Nigeria. He is also currently carrying out a research on relations between Muslim sub-cultures in Nigeria and has developed a Mason partnership with Usman Dan Fodio University in Sokoto, focusing on conflict resolution, with a focus on inter-faith dialogue.
