ALL Progressives Congress (APC) officials in Rivers State have promised to do everything within their powers to ensure that the state resident electoral commissioner Gesila Khan is jailed for her role in rigging recent elections in the state.
During the March 29 presidential and National Assembly elections and the April 11 gubernatorial polls in Rivers State, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) coasted home with huge margins. However, the APC refused to accept the results and accused Ms Khan of colluding with the PDP to perpetuate widespread rigging.
She is also being accused of obstructing justice by blocking the APC from having access to relevant electoral materials it would need to seek redress at the election petition tribunal. Dr Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, the chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the APC, said the party was determined to expose her atrocities and those of her PDP collaborators and ultimately retrieve the mandate which the electorate in Rivers State freely gave to the APC.
Dr Ikanya added: “In case Ms Khan has forgotten, we wish to remind her that there is always a day of reckoning and that it is inescapable. Since she has chosen to collude with evil men to pervert justice for pecuniary gain, Ms Khan should prepare for the inevitable consequences of her actions.
"Her chosen path can only lead to jail and to monumental disgrace. Ms Khan should be aware that she shares in the bloodguilt arising from the murder of about a hundred APC members by Rivers PDP leaders and their paid agents."
He added that the sponsors of violence that populate Rivers PDP should be aware that they must taste the wrath of the law for their acts of infamy. According to Dr Ikanya, they must surely spend some years in prison to serve as a lesson to people of their ilk.
"Where such characters are not duly punished we will never have a fair and peaceful election in Nigeria. We are eminently proud of the president-elect and we warmly commend him for publicly declaring that his administration will not forgive and will not forget those who perpetrated killings and arson in Rivers State during the elections," Dr Ikanya added.
