NIGERIANS in the UK are bracing themselves for the launch of another major Nollywood this weekend with the political film Kingmakers due to premier at the Odeon Cinema in Greenwich on Friday.
Produced by veteran filmmaker Collins Archie-Pierce, Kingmakers is a fictional drama set in the UK, Africa, USA and France. It is due to premier at the Odeon, in Greenwich, southeast London on Friday May 22, with the red carpet starting at 9pm and screening commencing at 10.45pm.
Among the members of the start cast that will feature in the film are Pamela Nomvete, Ken Smart, Collins Archie-Pearce, Ronnie Nyakale and Cornelius Maccarthy. Others include Maggie Saunders, David Webber, Adanna Oji, Nolo Phiri, Ken Christiansen, Charles Mpana, A Dot Comedian, Princess Abiye, Prince Shoyelu and Ade Bisi.
Mr Archie-Pierce said: "In the film, Innocence, Femi and Abdullah's lives are being played out for the leadership of the fictional nation of Karombe. After the death of the country's president the fight leadership plays out between brothers, generals and agents of the state as war and magic battle with love and honour."
Written and directed Nicholas Beveney with cinematography from Dwayne Josephs, the film is expected to attract diplomatic dignitaries from South Africa, Nigeria and Sierra Leone in the UK. Over the last three years, among the Nollywood films that have had successful premieres in London include Phone Swap, Doctor Bello, Shattered Hearts, Last Flight to Abuja, Shameful Deceit, International Games, Amina and Heroes and Zeroes. Nollywood analysts believe it is only a matter of time before the industry has a box office blockbuster in the UK.
