Zamfara State's majority leader and governor's driver involved in punch-up over woman

altMEMBERS of the Zamfara State House of Assembly's ethics and privileges committee have been asked to investigate a fight between its majority leader Alhaji Salisu Musa and the governor’s driver Idris Garba over a woman.

In an unprecedented comedy,  Alhaji Musa and Mr Gabra, the head driver to Governor Alhaji Abdul'Aziz Yari Abubakar, were engaged in a punch-up over a female. Apparently, the woman operates a restaurant in Gusau, the state capital and the two men traded blows as they both tried to lay claims to her.

It is believed that the majority leader went to see the lady who he had been dating for some time now and met the governor's driver there. In the ensuing fight, Mr Garba tried to bite off Alhaji Musa's fingers but for the timely intervention of the police.

Embarrassed by the public spectacle, Alhaji Lawali Kaura, the chairman of the Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), wrote to the Zamfara State House of Assembly, asking it to investigate the matter. Alhaji Isa Bayero, the clerk of the house read out the letter on the floor of the assembly.

After the letter was read out, the lawmakers were asked to investigate the brawl to save the state and the party from embarrassment. Speaker, Alhaji Sanusi Rikiji subsequently directed the ethics and privileges committee to call on all parties involved, including the woman, security agents, eyewitnesses and other relevant bodies.

Alhaji Rikiji warned that any invitee who failed to appear before the committee, headed by the chief whip Alhaji Abdulmumini Isa, would be seen and treated as a law breaker. Having started sitting, the committee is expected to submit its report on June 27.
