BUDDING entrepreneurs have launched an online business platform known as DiasporaConnex.com aimed at providing diasporans with a direct link to the Nigerian economy.
Currently, there are about 30m Nigerians living in the global diaspora and the new platform is designed to provide them with a link, so there is adequate two-way communication. DiasporaConnex.com founders say the platform provides Nigerian businesses with an opportunity to connect with a new and wider target audience of Nigerians living in the diaspora.
Chigozie Orogbu, DiasporaConnex.com's chief operating officer, described that online business platform as a web-based community aimed at guiding Nigerians in the diaspora seeking to return to Nigeria. He added that it provides tips on how to invest in the country, how to know Nigeria better and provided opportunities for capacity building.
Mr Orogbu said: “This is made possible by a platform which provides and creates an avenue for Nigerians to interact globally with each other through the use of online forums, social media, business listings and news. There is an enhanced awareness of Nigeria’s business and economic infrastructure for those that want to effectively reach and engage with them.
“Nigerians in diaspora, in particular, are looking for information and resources to assist in moving back home, or simply how to invest in Nigerian sectors. These sectors include but are not limited to the stock market, real estate, commodities, education, local businesses and service industries.”
Tokunbo Asagba, the platform's legal counsel, explained that since its inception in 2014, DiasporaConnex.com has grown to be a global online community platform, vibrant with user activity. He added that it currently generates over 60,000 page views per day from over 20 countries worldwide where Nigerians reside.
Mr Asagba said: “In the coming months, DiasporaConnex.com will be actively promoting its business listings and services capability in Nigeria through various marketing efforts which include strategic partnerships with local businesses and organisations. The goal is to gain wider brand recognition in Nigeria as well as re-enforce a reputation of being a reliable, safe and affordable online platform for businesses to list their products and services to connect with Nigerians living at home and in the Diaspora.”
Tunde Adegboye, DiasporaConnex.com's web content manager, further explained that the platform is a web-based community aimed at guiding Africans in Diaspora seeking to return to Africa. This, he said is made possible by interacting with Africans living in foreign countries through the use of online forums, social media and discussions thereby enhancing awareness and developing the business and organisational structure of the local economy.
