PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan's wife Patience was barred from entering the VIP lounge of the Port Harcourt International Airport yesterday by security officials who told her that she was not eligible to use the facility.
Dame Patience Jonathan, who was known for her flamboyance when her husband was in office, had become accustomed to the best treatment available and used VIP facilities as a matter of routine. Yesterday, however, she was on her way to the burial of her late chief security officer, Tamuno Jacob Igbomie, a deputy superintendent of police and while passing through the airport was told to use the main entrance.
Upon her arrival at the VIP Lounge of the Port Harcourt airport to catch her flight, she was told by those on duty that she would not use the facility. Efforts by her personal aides to pacify security agents and aviation staff at the airport were rebuffed as they insisted she could not access the lounge.
Officials apparently told Dame Jonathan’s entourage that they were acting on an order from Abuja. This same drama played itself out when the former first lady returned to the airport after attending the burial.
Deputy superintendent of police Igbomie was shot dead by unknown assailants about three weeks ago. His corpse was found in his Honda Accord car along Airport Road, Abuja, with all his phones, wallet and other personal effects in the car untouched.
