SUPER Eagles midfielder Mikel has insisted that he will see out his contract with English Premiership side Chelsea in the most obvious indication that he will rebuff all the bids for his services currently being offered to the west London club.
Mikel, 28, joined Chelsea in 2006 and has won a lot of silverware at the club, including the 2009/10 league title, the Uefa Champions League in 2001/12, the Europa Cup in 2012/13 and four FA Cups. Last summer, however, he was the subject of several transfer bids from European clubs after being regarded as surplus to requirements by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho but he decided not to accept any offer.
Since the end of last season, Mikel has also been the subject of several offers as numerous clubs have sought to cash in on the fact that he was out of favour at Chelsea. Last month, it was rumoured that Mikel was on his way to Dubai after indications that he has agreed personal terms with United Arab Emirates club Al Ain paving the way for a transfer to the Middle East.
However, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho blocked the deal, barring Mikel's departure. Turkish giants Fenerbahce and Galatasaray were also interested in taking Mikel but he has now put an end to all the speculations.
Mikel said: “I have two years left on my contract here and want to see them out. I am happy here and we will see what happens as I do want to stay and the manager wants me to stay, so I don’t have any issues.
“The manager has told me he wants me to stay and this is going to be my tenth season at the club, next year it will be my 11th. I have been here so long due to the contracts I have signed and I like to be somewhere where I have developed friendships."
According to Mikel, Chelsea is like his family now as every day he comes to work, it is like coming in to his family. He added that he knows the whole place, the staff, it is going to be a hard place to leave when his contract runs out.
Among the clubs said to have been interested in Mikel's services at the time were Monaco of France and Juventus and Inter Milan in Italy. They all became interested after Mikel became a marginal figure at Stamford Bridge, playing in less than a third of league games.
