SUPER Eagles winger Osaze Odemwingie has been ruled out of action for the next two to three weeks after picking up a hamstring injury in training with his club Stoke City during the week.
Last season, Odemwingie was barely on the pitch at the start of the 2014/15 campaign when he suffered knee ligament damage in the 1-0 triumph over Manchester City in August. He returned to action fully fit this season when he came off the bench against Liverpool in last Sunday’s opening game but his latest injury means he will not be available for the trip to face Tottenham Hotspurs today.
Stoke City manager Mark Hughes, said: “Unfortunately Peter has got a hamstring strain and is likely to miss the next couple of weeks. It’s disappointing for him because he has worked tremendously hard throughout pre-season.”
Mr Hughes, who was hoping to make the best use of the Nigerian this season, confirmed yesterday that Osaze would miss the Potters’ next two games at least. During the last campaign, Osaze made a full recovery to feature in the latter stages of last season and built upon that during the Potters’ hectic pre-season schedule.
Osaze had got his 2015/16 campaign off to a flying start by scoring in a pre-season match earlier this month when Stoke City lost the Colonia Cup to German side Cologne. Last month, Osaze extended his stay in the English Premiership by another season after signing a year-long extension to his existing contract that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2015/16 campaign.
