Super Eagles defender Juwon Oshaniwa arrives in Edinburgh all set to play for Hearts

altSUPER Eagles defender Juwon Oshaniwa has arrived in Edinburgh and is all set to sign for Scottish Premiership side Hearts after finally being granted a UK working visa by the British high commission in Abuja.

Oshaniwa, 24, has been a long term target of the Scottish side and having arrived, is set to sign a long term contract at Tynecastle. UK immigration authorities finally gave him permission to enter the country after he waited more than two weeks for a visa to be processed.

His work permit was approved earlier this month and he is now preparing for the next chapter of his career in Scotland after leaving Israeli club Ashdod. Hearts had contacted the UK embassy in an attempt to speed up the process and get the defender to Edinburgh and it was finally all approved yesterday.

Oshaniwa said: It’s another morale boost for me as they were showing some concern and they were very anxious to receive me at Hearts. Robbie Neilson called me on Monday and I thought, I should already be in Edinburgh."

Hearts manager Robbie Nelson,  said the club expects him to be fit for a first-team debut in a week to ten days and will monitor his condition. While waiting for his visa, Oshaniwa has been following training schedules sent to him by coaching staff at Riccarton for the last few weeks.

“Juwon has been training over there and he thinks he is only a week to ten days away from full fitness, so that’s positive,” Mr Neilson added.

Left full back Oshaniwa was one of Nigeria's standout players in the last World Cup and has been a target for Hearts for a while now. He will face up to fellow fullback Efe Ambrose who plays for Scottish rivals Celtic of Glasgow.
