Anichebe rejects loan move to Bolton choosing to remain in Premiership with WBA

altSUPER Eagles striker Victor Anichebe has rejected a loan deal to English Championship side Bolton Wanderers opted to rather stay put and fight for a place at his current team Premiership club West Bromwich Albion (WBA).

Anichebe, 26, has not played for Nigeria since 2011 when he got injured in a Nations Cup qualifier, choosing to concentrate on his club career after the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) abandoned him while injured. Since then, his club career has also suffered and he is currently struggling to get into the WBA starting line-up.

Since the start of the current season, Anichebe has played just one league  game for The Baggies, coming on as a 74th minute substitute for Rickie Lambert in 0-3 home loss to Manchester City on August 10. Alerted about his situation, Bolton Wanderers made an enquiry about his availability with a view to taking him on loan.

Bolton’s manager Neil Lennon admitting attacking reinforcements are an absolute must as he team needs to bolster its forward line. He made enquiries about Anichebe but the player rejected the offer, choosing to remain in the Premiership.

Mr Lennon said: “We simply don’t have enough options with Emile Heskey and Zach Clough out injured. We’re trying our hardest to get something sorted but it isn’t as easy as you’d think sometimes.”

Anichebe who won an Olympic silver medal with Nigeria at the Beijing 2008 games, started off his career with Everton before switching to WBA. A former England youth international, Anichebe switched his allegiance to Nigeria and played his first game for the Super Eagles in March 2008 but narrowly missed out on making the 2010 World Cup.
