NIGERIAN Football Federation (NFF) officials have revealed that each of the 25 players invited for the Super Eagles friendly matches against DR Congo and Cameroon on October 8 and 11 respectively will be paid $3,000 per game.
On October 8, the Eagles face the Leopards of Congo in Antwerp and on the 11th they face Cameroon's Indomitable Lions in Brussels. Both games are designed to fine-tune the team ahead of its 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers which resume in March when Nigeria faces Egypt home and away.
Upon assuming office in July, new Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh has been in charge of one competitive game away to Tanzania and a friendly at home to Niger Republic a few days later. However, the team is in need of reinforcements and he hopes that the two friendlies will enable him fill some of the gaps.
To avoid any rancour, the NFF has announced in advance that the players will receive $3,000 per match. In the past, match bonuses have been a sore point between the NFF and the players as the two sides have disagreed about how much should be paid.
Once upon a time, the players used to get $5,000 for a win and $2,500 for a draw but the past administration of NFF chairman Aminu Maigari halved this, saying it had to cut its costs. Keen to avoid any dispute in Belgium, new NFF chairman Amaju Pinnick has come up with this fresh formula.
Under the new regime, the NFF will cough up $150,000 as appearance fees for the two matches for each of the 25 players at $3,000 per game. Already, the NFF has directed its accounts department to send each of the invited players a return ticket, as part of a plan to avoid any disputes in that area too.
