AFROBEAT musician Deoba Authentic has agreed to sing a rendition of his new album Lagbotiwa at the forthcoming annual gala dinner of the mayor of Hackney Councillor Sade Etti taking place at the Hackney Town Hall on Friday October 30.
Designed to be the most successful of all the dinners organised by Nigerian mayors in the UK so far, Councillor Etti's dinner will have an Elvis Presley impersonator and will include a First Bank corporate delegation made up of executives from Nigeria and the UK. Government officials are also expected to attend the event which will involve a three course meal, a raffle draw and live music.
Aimed at raising funds for the mayor's three nominated charities domestic abuse non-governmental organisation Hestia, Hackney Food Bank and the Immediate Theatre, the event kicks off at 7.30pm, with tickets selling for £60. London food distributor Eniola Foods is one of the event's major sponsors and has already booked several tables.
Councillor Etti said: "We are hoping to raise at least £15,000 from this event to fund these three major charities that are doing good work across our community. Already, the event is generating some excitement as First Bank has booked several tables and sponsors like Eniola Foods have pledged their support."
Deoba Authentic, who is delighted to be given the opportunity to provide a live rendition of his new video which just went viral on September 22, said it should be a night to remember. He added that it provides him with an opportunity to reach out to his fans who span across the African diaspora community in the UK.
Councillor Etti urged all those interested in buying tickets to email either speaker@hackney.gov.yk, eda.ziya@hackney.gov.uk or ring 020 8356 3581. She added that it will be a black tie do with a Champagne reception and the combination of all the cultural facets should make it an unforgettable evening.
