Death toll from Boko Haram's latest bombing of Abuja's satellite towns rises to 14

altAS many as 14 people are feared dead following Boko Haram's latest bomb blast in Abuja that involved the simultaneously detonating of two explosive devices in the satellite towns of Nyanya and Kuje yesterday.

In what has been the terrorist sect's most deadly attack on the capital recently, massive explosions rocked Kuje Market, Kuje Police Station and the Nyanya overhead bridge. Unconfirmed reports from rescue workers on ground have put the number of dead so far at 14 with 32 persons reported injured.

Apparently the bomb blast in Nyanya which occurred almost at the same point where a similar one went off last year, killed two persons while about 12 suffered various degrees of injuries. Sources said that the blast in Kuje which hit the area near the market and the police station, recorded more casualties with about 12 dead and over 20 injured.

Manzo Ezekiel, a spokesman for the Nigerian Emergency Management Agency, confirmed the explosions but added that the casualty figures had not been fully ascertained. He said that another bombing took place minutes apart near the Nyanya overhead bridge, close to where similar blasts occurred last year, killing several people and injuring others.

Of late, the Nigerian military has enjoyed significant success in dislodging Boko Haram from its strongholds in the northeast but the sect still has the capacity to detonate bombs at will. Earlier this week, Boko Haram detonated several bombs in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital killing dozens.
