SCOTTISH Premiership giants Celtic's Efe Ambrose has been called up by Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh to replace Chelsea centreback Kenneth Omeruo who has pulled out of the two forthcoming friendly games this month with an injury.
On October 8, Nigeria plays a friendly match against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Antwerp in Belgium and three days later, the team faces perennial rivals Cameroon in Brussels. Oliseh had called up 24 players for the game but after last weekend's league matches, Omeruo has had to pull out.
Currently on loan to Turkish club Kasimpasa, Omeruo suffered a hamstring injury during a league game over the weekend, although the severity of this injury is yet to be ascertained. Versatile Ambrose has mainly played as a right full-back for the Eagles but towards the final days of former coach Stephen Keshi, he appeared to have fallen out of favour.
It appears that he will now be asked to fight for a place in his more familiar central defence role where he plays for Celtic. He will be fighting for a starting place with other accomplished centrebacks like Godfrey Oboabona who plays for Caykur Rizespor in Turkey and William Ekong of FK Haugesund in Norway.
