Soldiers shoot dead female suicide bomber who tried to blow up Maiduguri barracks

altTROOPS attached to the Seventh Mechanised Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri have shot dead a suspected Boko Haram female suicide bomber after she tried to enter their barracks with a bomb strapped around her body.

In the latest incident of Boko Haram trying to detonate an explosive using a mule, the terrorist sect targeted the army's busy barracks in the Borno State capital. However, alert soldiers were able to spot the suicide bomber described as a tall girl dressed in a red hijab as she approached the facility and opened fire.

She defied warnings by soldiers to stop and identify herself and they subsequently shot her, after which they found she had a bomb strapped to her body. Apparently, she had shunned requests to stop for a search, insisting that she would enter the barracks without being checked.

One soldier who witnessed the incident, said: “I was on duty at the gate when I heard my colleague saying to her do not be stupid, stop there and tell me who you are. The would-be-bomber responded by saying you are stupid also, I will not stop.

"At that stage, I took cover in readiness for anything as I knew she must be on a rough mission but I was thinking they were many. That soldier warned her again that he would shoot if she refused to stop but then she replied him saying shoot me as I know I will die just once."

He added that after the soldier fired, another troop shot her on the leg and she fell but even while on ground, she still crawled toward the barracks. From a distance, another soldier opened fire on her and the bomb strapped to her body went off but no soldier sustained any injury.
