In a two-horse race between Prince Audu and the incumbent, Governor Idris Wada of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), the former governor looks like he has swept the board. Results released from Kogi West senatorial district show that the APC candidate won six local government areas, as against one won by the PDP candidate, while in Kogi East, Prince Audu also won six out of the nine local government areas while in Kogi Central he beat his PDP rival by winning three out of the five councils.
Although the Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec) is yet to formally declare the winner, Prince Audu's victory is all but secured. Security has been beefed up around Inec's Lokoja headquarters where the formal result is expected to be declared later this afternoon.
Prince Audu polled 102,214 votes against Wada’s 84,770 votes, according to the official results from 11 local government areas announced by Inec officials. So far, both the APC and PDP have expressed satisfaction with the way the elections were conducted, describing them as free and fair.
