Choice FM founder Yvonne Thompson among galaxy of stars honoured at CA Awards

altCHOICE FM founder Yvonne Thompson was one of several recipients given a lifetime achievement award at the recent CA Awards ceremony held at the Hilton Hotel near Tower Bridge in central London over the weekend.

 

In a classy dinner that attracted over 250 guests, a total of 42 awards were handed out in a roll call of big names, celebrities, entertainers and media personalities. Among those honoured were Hollywood actor Winston Ellis, the actor who plays Dr Who, Samuel Anderson, Ben TV chairman Alistair Soyode and the founder of the UK Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Arts awards Pauline Long.

 

Other celebrities and dignitaries who turned up include Councillor Patricia Ekechi, the current mayor of Enfield, Professor Rotimi and the former mayor of Waltham Forest Anna Mbachu. Hosted by multi award winning presenter and actress Gayle Thompson, it also featured entertainment from the likes of Tony Cue, Hyper Hype, Precious Ngwu, Jennifer Dasweetnezz, Justified Prince, Carol Jiani and Valentine Artist.

 

Executive director Emeka Anyanwu, said: “We are thrilled to have pulled off a great night and we’re happy our guests went home fulfilled and inspired. We’re now ready to take on the planning for next year as the CA award has come to stay and we can only get even better and bigger.

 

Among those who received awards on the night were Priscilla Nwikpo of Ben TV who was named media personality of the year; Segun Oluwole, the MC of the year; Ayo Akinfe of Nigerian Watch named best editor, Gayle Thompson, who won the best TV presenter award and Fredi Nwaka named the best film producer. Among those who won icon recognition awards were Dr Soyode, GP Nkem Ezeilo, actress Theodora Ibekwe-Oyebade, Professor Rotimi Jaiyesinmi, DJ Abass and Emmanuel Anyiam Osigwe.

 

In his acceptance speech, Professor Jaiyesimi urged Africans in diaspora not to see colour but rather focus on breaking any glass ceiling. He also urged everyone to continue on the part of excellence, while Dr Yvonne Thompson said ethnic minorities should learn to support their media to encourage growth and sustainability.
