Cross River State government signs MoU with Thai-Africa Corporation to build Rice City

altCROSS River State government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Thailand's Thai-Africa Corporation to construct a purpose built town dedicated to rice production.

 

To be known as Rice City, the new town City will have a solar-powered and automated rice seedling and nursery propagation centre, a rice plantation with irrigation infrastructure, a mill and packaging and distribution facilities. Cross River State governor Ben Ayade signed the MoU on behalf of the state while Pantipa Dhangom, the executive director of the Thai – Africa Corporation, signed on behalf of the company.

 

Signed in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, the agreement is designed to make Cross River State the leading rice producer in Nigeria. According to the MoU, Thai-Africa will be the core investor that will develop the Rice City project in partnership with the Cross River State government.

 

Among other things the city will also have an agriculture training centre, which will oversee the development of other crop projects including but not limited to palm oil, sugarcane, cassava, maize and soyabeans. It will also be fully mechanised with clearing, planting, weeding and harvesting equipment.

 

Thai-Africa Corporation will facilitate international funding for the execution of the various projects in Rice City. Governor Ayade hopes the business relationship will attract multi-billion dollars investment into Cross River State.
