AFROBEAT king Femi Anikulapo-Kuti has been discharged from the hospital hale and hearty in Lagos after undergoing surgery from an undisclosed ailment over the last week.
Last week, Femi, 52, the son of Afrobeat founder Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, was admitted into the Lagoon Hospital in Lagos for an operation. However, after what appears to be successful surgery, ex-wife, Funke, has uploaded a video of the musician on Instagram, capturing him leaving the facility.
On Sunday, the usual pomp in and around The New Afrika Shrine, Lagos, was not there, as the venue was shut down, as a mark of respect for the ailing band leader. Full details of the ailment are being kept secret by Femi's family but it is not believed his illness is life threatening in any form.
On Sunday, the Shrine posted a notice on its premises, which read: “This is to inform our fans and lovers of Afrobeat that there will not be Sunday jump because Ambassador Femi Kuti is going for an operation and will not be able to perform for a couple of weeks. We will keep you all updated on the schedule of when the Positive Force band will play as our prayers are with Ambassador Femi Kuti.”
Femi's sister Yeni, also shared a picture of the singer on the hospital bed on Sunday. Her picture depicted a successful operation and she thanked everyone for their prayers and teased about having an exclusive video of Femi composing songs on his sick bed.
