GOLDEN Eaglets stars Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Nwakali could both be joining English Premiership giants Arsenal in 2016 after the club entered into negotiations with both players with a bid to sign them in the new year.
Both players were standouts in the recent U17 World Cup in Chile where Nwakali was voted best player of the tournament and Osimhen ended up as the top scorer with 10 goals. Since the tournament, a raft of European clubs have been on their tails and earlier this week, Osimhen has confirmed that he will arrive in London to check out Arsenal's facilities.
Nwakali's agents, the Jonathan Barnet’s Stellar Group has informed his club Diamond Academy Umuahia that the Gunners are ready to meet the central midfielder’s €3.5m (N752.5m) asking price. However, it is understood that Arsenal will only offer him a contract should he impress during trials.
Already, Nwakali has been linked with possible moves to Chelsea, Olympiakos and Sporting Lisbon, with Italian side Udinese said to be desperate to sign him too. Already, the Serie A club has made a bid of €800,000 which was rejected as they have been told to increase their offer to €1.2m.
Arsenal on the other hand are looking to strengthen their team as the club eyes the English Premiership title. Apart from Osimhen and Nwakali, other players the club is said to be interested in include Leicester City's Algerian midfielder Riyad Mahrez who has become the subject of a £25m bidding war with other clubs like Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs.
Osimhen, for his part, has confirmed that he has the option of joining Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg but he will wait until he has spoken with Arsenal. He added that Wolfsburg have offered him a contract but he will not sign for them yet because Arsenal are also showing strong interest and will make a decision after viewing the club's offer.
Arsenal can sense that the English Premiership title is within their grasp this year due to the poor form of several other major rivals like Manchester United and Chelsea. Manchester City who were the Gunners main fear have also slacked lately, losing 1-2 at the Emirates earlier this week.
