Bayelsa's Governor Seriake Dickson's sister kidnapped by armed gunmen in Yenagoa

altGOVERNOR Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State's sister Nancy has been abducted by armed gunmen in the Okaka suburb of the state capital Yenagoa in the latest incidence of kidnapping high profile Nigerians.

 

Over recent years, kidnapping has blossomed into a lucrative industry in Nigeria with the families of high profile politicians, sportsmen and entertainers kidnapped for ransom. Among the victims of the menace have been former president Goodluck Jonathan whose uncle was kidnapped and ex-finance minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala whose mother was abducted.

 

Yesterday, Governor Dickson's 26-year-old sister Nancy Keme Dickson and her sales girl were seized and whisked away from her shop in Yenagoa.  According to eyewitnesses, about four gunmen stormed  Keme’s shop at about 2.50pm, yesterday, in a  Lexus Jeep.

 

They had trailed their victim to her shop along Okaka Road, where Nancy and her sales girl were forcibly taken away to an unknown destination. Bayelsa State police public relations officer, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident, adding that they are aware of the incident and are working on it.

 

Mr Butswat said: “On December 19, 2015, at about 1450hrs, four unknown gunmen in an ash Lexus Jeep, trailed one Nancy Keme Dickson, 26, to her shop at Okaka Road, Yenagoa and abducted her and her sales girl to an unknown destination. Efforts have been intensified to arrest the abductors and investigation is ongoing.”

 

According to Mr Butswat, immediately the command was alerted, it embarked on a stop and search/cordon operation in a bid to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators. So far, there is no news of any arrests being made and it is not yet clear of the kidnappers have made any  ransom demands yet.
