FORMER petroleum minister Diezani Alison-Madueke's lawyer has denied recent media reports claiming she succumbed to cancer and passed away yesterday in a London hospital pointed out that former oil boss is alive.
Yesterday, rumours of Ms Alison-Madueke's demise were widely reported across social media but there was no official confirmation. She has been in London receiving treatment for cancer since leaving office in May and according to Ms Alison-Madueke's family, she has successfully undergone surgery.
However, yesterday, her lawyer, Oscar Onwudiwe, debunked the rumour of the former minister’s death pointing out that it was not true. Last month, her family revealed that over recent weeks, Ms Alison-Madueke's situation had deteriorated and she was no longer responding to treatment.
They then announced plans to fly her to Nigeria for spiritual help, which she was to obtain at the Synagogue Church of All Nations in Lagos run by evangelical clergyman Pastor TB Joshua. However, for now, Ms Alison-Madueke remains in London where she is out on bail awaiting trial over money laundering charges.
On October 2, the UK's National Crime Agency arrested the former minister and released her on bail after an injunction was obtained to seize £27,000 from her and she was asked to deposit her passport with the court. All along Ms Alison-Madueke has maintained her innocence, claiming that she did not steal a dime while in office.
