FORMER Super Eagles winger Osaze Odemwingie has announced that he intends to leave the English Premiership at the end of the current season after he has failed to get into the Stoke City team during the current campaign mainly due to injury.
Osaze, 34, is in the final year of his current contract at the Potters and has only started one game for the club this season. Although he has been sidelined by a hamstring strain, when fit, he has been unable to get into the starting line-up, so will be looking to move to where he can get regular football.
A veteran of the Super Eagles, Osaze joined Stoke from Cardiff City in the January 2014 transfer window but last season was out for eight months after he ruptured cruciate ligaments in a league game against Manchester City in August 2014. Since then, he has battled with one injury after the other and has got his sights set on Stoke’s third round FA Cup clash against Doncaster Rovers on January 9 to make his long-awaited comeback.
Osaze said: “This is maybe my last season or last but one season, in the Premier League and so I appreciate the game time more than ever."
In July, Osaze signed a new one-year deal but he has expressed his disappointment at being sidelined by a late injury in last week’s Carling Cup fixture against Sheffield Wednesday. The former Lille attacker was scheduled to make his return to action in the game, which Stoke eventually won 3-0, but manager Mark Hughes was forced to withdraw him from the game after he got a slight hamstring pull.
A Beijing 2008 Olympic Games silver medallist, Osaze said the Potters enjoyed their Christmas party in London on Saturday night as they celebrated their 2-0 win over Manchester City a few hours earlier. He added that they had a great party following the victory.
