Manchester City send scouts to watch Charlton's Nigerian-born striker Ademola Lookman

altENGLISH Premiership giants Manchester City have made enquiries about Nigerian-born midfielder Ademola Lookman following several impressive displays from him this season in the Championship for Charlton Athletic.

Lookman, 18, joined Charlton's academy in 2014 after signing from Waterloo FC, a youth football club based in the London Borough of Lambeth. However, his impressive goal scoring record for Charlton's U18 and U21 teams led to him making a rapid ascent through the academy ranks and he made his first-team debut for the club on 3 November 2015.

Since becoming a regular, Lookman has gone on to post impressive displays for the Addicks, which has attracted the attention of several Premiership sides including Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and now Manchester City. Earlier this week, the Manchester clubs sent scouts to watch the youngster, with a view to opening talks with him.

Only made his debut in early November, Lookman has already scored three goals, including two in Charlton’s 2-2 draw with Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday night. He still has two-and-a-half years left on his contract with Charlton, who are not keen to let him go but a tempting offer from Manchester City may force the Championship club to sell him.

Lookman is eligible to play for both England and Nigeria, so will need to be tapped up quickly by the Nigerian Football Federation if they want to see him don the green-white-green. For now, the young striker is yet to declare his allegiance to either nation.
