NASARAWA State governor Umaru al-Makura spent Christmas Day visiting sick patients hospitalised across the state and even cleared the health bills of two young girls who had undergone major operations.
Spending a total of N700,000 (£3,500), Governor al-Makura paid the N400,000 hospital bill of two-year-old Dowese Tyengo, who has tumour of the eye. She was diagnosed with cancer at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi and remains on admission.
Making the donation, Governor al-Makura said he was touched by the plight of the little girl when he saw her picture and decided to defray the hospital bill. Receiving the cash on behalf of the parents of the patient, Pastor Telumun Vaatia thanked the governor for the gesture and prayed God to reward him abundantly.
Also, Governor al-Makura settled the N300,000 hospital bill for one Rukaiya Mohammed, whose one leg was amputated and needed money to undergo operation in Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria, to prevent the loss of the other leg. Ahmed Tukur, the governor's spokesman, said the governor heard about Rukaiya's plight on radio and decided to pay the bill in order to save her second leg.
