OGUN State governor Ibikunle Amosun has created history by appointing civil servant Abidemi Adekunle Bammeke as a permanent secretary in the state civil service the same day he was due to retire.
In a bizarre development, Mr Bammeke was sworn-in as a permanent secretary in the state civil service on the very day he retired. While commenting on Mr Bammeke’s elevation on his last day on duty, Governor Amosun urged all public servants to be up and doing in the discharge of their duties, adding that they are being observed and their hard work will be rewarded.
In addition, Governor Amosun said that the 60-year-old Mr Bammeke was the second person he would appoint as a permanent secretary on his final day in service. On January 6, 2012, Alhaja Modupe Leshi was also sworn-in as a permanent secretary on her last day in the Ogun State civil service.
Governor Amosun said: “We are doing this to let people know that when you work well, you are not forgotten. You are the second person I’m doing this for and it is to show that we appreciate your efforts and send signals that until the last day, your work will not go unnoticed.”
Mr Bammeke expressed appreciation to Governor Amosun for the rare opportunity, which he said, came not only at the twilight but at the complete end of the journey. He seized the opportunity to urge his colleagues to be committed to service at all times.
