Peugeot Automobile Nigeria launches new 508 saloon car as it steps up its market presence

altPEUGEOT Automobile Nigeria (Pan) has unveiled its new and improved 508 saloon 2016 edition as part of its continued drive to increase its share of the local car market and reinforce its presence as a major player.

 

One of the few automobile manufacturers with an assembly plant in Nigeria, Peugeot has a joint venture with the government called Pan that assembles cars in Kaduna. Its latest car which runs on a Euro Five engine known for its extremely pure efficiency and high standard in emission control, is assembled at the Kaduna facility.

 

This new Peugeot 508 is a successor to the Peugeot 508 2013 model and is built in accordance to global quality standards of the Peugeot brand. At the unveiling in Abuja, Pan's managing director Ibrahim Boyi, said that the improved version is fully automated and has the highest standard in efficiency, emission and environmental compliance.

 

Mr Boyi said: “In terms of functionality, outlook and the design, the new 508 is a lot better and the front has been redesigned to give it more elegance and better customer experience. It comes with a touch screen control panel to limit distraction for the driver and permanent features bordering on safety which is a standard for every Peugeot car, was also maintained.”

 

He also disclosed that in terms of affordability, the new Peugeot 508 has a marginal 3% difference with the former version. According to Mr Boyi, it also has more functionality than the older version and competes favourably with other brands.

 

Furthermore, Mr Boyi highlighted that the new model comes with longer mileage and fuel efficiency running on 7.6 litres per 100 kilometres. He also pointed out that the new edition has met stringent environmental emission regulation standards.

 

Shepuya Icah, Pan's head of marketing and customer relations, said that the Peugeot 508 which has a more colourful and user friendly touch screen, is 10% cheaper compared with its competitors. Aminu Jalal, the director-general of the National Automotive Design and Development Council, praised the new edition saying the interior is attractive and there are improvements in the engine management system.
