ENGLISH Premiership giant killers Watford are desperate to hold on to Super Eagles hotshot Odion Ighalo in the January transfer window as his scintillating form has attracted the attention of numerous big clubs keen to buy his services.
Ighalo, 26 is one of the hottest properties in English football at the moment with 12 league goals this season that has helped catapult his modest Watford side up to seventh in the table. Apart from being the fourth highest goalscorer in the league, Ighalo is also the classiest as his mesmeric displays are a delight to watch.
Watford fans hero-worship Ighalo for his famous Kanu-like dragback which they have christened the Ighalo Chop but the English sports media has named it the Ighalo Scoop. Highly entertaining and a pleasure on the eye, the Ighalo Scoops always leaves opposing defenders dumped on the seat of their pants as they are left beaten and helpless.
Last weekend, Liverpool was on the end of Ighalo's ruthlessness as he not only scored twice but left their centrebacks Mamodu Sakho and Martin Skrtyle totally humiliated. With such form, bigger clubs have noticed Ighalo and Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores, has condeded it will be a struggle to hold on to the striker.
Mr Flores said: “I think Ighalo is completely clever, he chose five months ago the option to stay here with Watford. I think he’ll finish the season with Watford, but after that anybody knows."
Ighalo joined Watford in July 2014 from Italian outfit Udinese after spending a few seasons on loan with Granada in Spain. Last summer, he rejected a big money move to China and his decision to remain in the Premiership appears to have paid off.
England's one-month mid season transfer window opens on January 1 and many clubs struggling to score goals in the league will look to use the opportunity to strengthen their squads. Modest Watford may find it hard to reject big cash offers if a major blub offers a lot of money for Ighalo's services.
