Arsenal to launch audacious bid for Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo in the summer

altENGLISH Premiership league leaders Arsenal plan to launch an audacious bid for Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo in the summer in the hope of prosing him away from Watford to solve their goalscoring problems.

Arsenal currently top the Premiership table with 42 points but have only scored 34 goals compared with 37 for second place Leicester City and 39 for third placed Manchester City. Heavily dependent on French striker Olivier Giroud for goals, Arsenal struggle to score whenever he is injured or suspended.

At the moment, Arsenal has a very thin forward line due to injuries to strikers Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck and manager Arsene Wenger is keen to address this. Ighalo, who has been in sparkling form in thus his debut Premier League season, has scored 14 goals in 20 appearances.

His displays on the pitch have been very eye catching and in October last year when Arsenal and Watford me, he gave the Gunners back line a torrid time. Although Arsenal went on to win the game 3-0, Ighalo breached the Gunners defence repeatedly and was very unfortunate not to score at least twice.

Watford captain Troy Deeney, Ighalo's team mate and strike partner, has already said he would reject any approach from Arsenal if the club came for him. Both strikers caught the eye at Vicarage Road when the two sides met, especially in the first half but eventually got worn out and succumbed to three Arsenal goals in the final 30 minutes of the game.

After the match, the Watford players were, to a man, applauded off the field by their fans, who appreciated their fine display. Since then, however, Ighalo has gone on an unbelievable scoring run, finding the back of the next in six of his last seven league matches and is currently the league's second highest scorer.
