Court imposes sex ban on man ordering police to tell police before he has intercourse

altYORK Magistrates Court has imposed an unprecedented sex ban on a man that involves him having to tell the police 24 hours in advance if he wants to have sexual intercourse with a woman.

Imposing the ban, a magistrate decided it was necessary to curtail the activities of the man who was recently investigated in suspicion of committing sexual offences. As part of the order, the man, who cannot be named from legal reasons, must also tell officers in North Yorkshire the name of the woman he plans to have sex with before engaging in any form of sexual activity.

If he wishes to have sex outside the North Yorkshire Police force area, he must also contact the relevant local police force. In a highly prohibiting order, the man, from York, must also tell police about every device he owns or has access to that can access the internet or make contact with other people.

Earlier today, the conditions were imposed on the man by way of an interim sexual risk order, requested by North Yorkshire Police. The order was approved by a York magistrate and will be active until May 19, when the court will assess whether or not a full order is required and if so how long it should last for.

In addition, the man will be bound by the civil order even though he has not been convicted of a sexual offence. Breaching a sexual risk order can result in a five-year prison sentence and the police can apply for orders in cases where they feel there is a need to protect the wider public.
