SUPER Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has declared that he will not leave Watford during the January transfer window despite the interest he is attracting from a plethora of European clubs as he wants to end the season achieving something with the side.
Currently the second highest scorer in the English Premiership with 14 goals, Ighalo has scored in five successive league matches and his performances have catapulted Watford up to seventh in the league table. Alerted by his great form, Spanish giants Athletico Madrid and Serie A's Roma are both reported to have enquired about the striker.
However, Ighalo, has dismissed speculation linking him with a move away from Vicarage Road, pointing out that he wants to end the 2015/16 campaign with the club. He added that he will not let all the transfer talk distract him from his goal of trying to achieve as much as possible with Watford this season.
Ighalo said: “I want to finish the season strongly with Watford and prove that we have a good bunch of players here. When the focus is on a strong finish, transfer talk will not get to you.
“I haven’t really bothered myself about statistics because I’ve always had my feet on the ground and I never forget where I come from. I am just focused on getting better, doing things right on the pitch and being myself on the pitch.”
In 2014, Ighalo joined Watford from Italian side Udinese and since then has been a revelation, scoring more goals in English league football than any other player during the course of 2015. At the moment, he is vying with Leicester’s Jamie Vardy and Romelu Lukaku of Everton to become the highest Premiership scorer during the current campaign.
Later today, Watford take on Premiership giants Manchester City at Vicarage Road and Ighalo will be hoping to add to his goal tally. A cult hero with the Watford fans, Ighalo is particularly liked for his mesmerising moves that leave defenders on the seat of the pants, which has been named the Ighalo Scoop.
