Metuh said he would rather starve to death than return the N400m he got from Dasuki

altPEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) publicity secretary Chief Olisa Metuh has told Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officers holding him that he would rather starve to death than refund the N400m (£1.36m) he got from the former national security adviser.

Last week, Chief Metuh was arrested by the EFCC and is currently being held as part of the investigations into the $2.1bn arms scandal during which the former national security adviser Col Dasuki Sambo handed out cash to PDP officials. Under plans to guarantee the swift returns of looted anti-graft officials have suggested that some of those arrested can be let free if they return the cash they received.

However, it appears that Chief Metuh has rejected such an offer, pointing out that he would rather go on hunger strike than refund the money he was said to have collected from Col Dasuki.  EFCC chairman Ibrahim Magu, revealed, however, that despite Chief Metuh's position, the war against corruption would go on unabated.

Already, the former military administrator of Kaduna State, Brigadier Jafaru Isa had refunded N100m (£341,672) of the N160m (£546,676) he collected from the office of the national security adviser. A close associate of President Muhammadu Buhari, Brigadier Isa was arrested and released after agreeing to refund the balance soon.

However, Mr Magu said former president Dr Goodluck Jonathan would not be invited over the $2.1bn arms deals because memos and documents on the disbursement of the money were not approved for political campaigns. Numerous PDP officials, heads of parastatals, governors and political leaders have been arrested as part of the scam.
