Military warns public to be wary of Boko Haram suicide bombers disguised as mad men

MILITARY commanders have warned members of the public to be wary of people dressed as mad men as Boko Haram has resorted to disguising suicide bombers in this manner in a desperate bid to attack soft targets.

 

Over recent months, the Nigerian military has enjoyed considerable success against Boko Haram but the terrorists are still carrying out suicide bombings. of late, Boko Haram has resorted to using bombers disguised as girls and women with bombs hidden under their clothing and hijabs but as the military has now caught on to it, the terrorists have changed tactics.

 

Brigadier Rabe Abubakar, the acting director of defence information, said that Boko Haram used this new tactic to bomb Gombi market in Adamawa State, resulting in several deaths. He said it had come to the notice of the Defence Headquarters that Boko Haram members in their desperation to cause colossal havoc, had now devised a new method where they dress like mad persons to gain unsuspecting access to public areas to detonate bombs.

 

 “Defence Headquarters therefore urges our fellow good citizens across the country to be wary of mad persons approaching markets, public places or crowded areas so as to nip this ugly trend in the bud. Nigerians are also enjoined to be security-conscious at all times and should endeavour to report any suspicious person or object to security agencies for prompt action,” he added.

 

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Air Force said it carried out sustained aerial bombardment of Sambisa Forest with over 280 operational sorties conducted against terrorist’s targets in the area over the last one month. Deputy theatre commander of air operation of Operation Lafiya Dole, Air Vice Marshal Isiaka Amao, said the strikes and bombardments were intensified between December 2015 and January 2016, towards ending the Boko Haram threat.
