ENGLISH Premier League giants Arsenal have finalised plans to sign Golden Eaglets duo Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze after it invited both players to view its facilities along with former Gunners striker Nwankwo Kanu.
Nwakali and Chukwueze both play for Diamond Academy in Nigeria and were outstanding at last year's U17 World Cup in Chile which Nigeria won. Nwakali won the golden ball, having been voted the best player of the tournament and both players shared the bronze boot award for scoring three goals each as Nigeria soared to victory.
Since the World Cup, Nwakali in particular has been the subject of a lot of transfer speculation with numerous clubs across Europe bidding for his signature. He appears now to have settled for Arsenal and over the weekend, he and Chukwueze met with Gunners manager Wenger, who gave them a tour of the club's facilities.
They had their photographs taken with Wenger at the club’s headquarters alongside Kanu and Ivan Gazidis, the club's chief executive. Clubs that have shown interest in Nwakali since the World Cup include Manchester City, Tottenham, Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
Arsenal are hoping to seal a deal for the duo before the transfer deadline closes today, enabling them to join the senior team once they hit 18. Fifa rules do not allow non-European Union nationals to sign adult contracts for the continent's sides until they reach 18.
Meanwhile, CSKA Moscow has said it will not sell Super Eagles skipper Ahmed Musa in the current transfer window. Over the weekend, the Russian club turned down a fourth bid from Leicester City of £18.7m for Musa after an original offer of £15.1m.
CSKA, who are top of the Russian league, want Musa, 23, to stay until at least the summer. Musa has also attracted the attention of other top Premier League teams but has a £22.8m buyout clause in his contract, which runs until 2019 and the Russian club want full value for their player.
