OSHOGBO bricklayer Saheed Kolapo and his wife Rofiat have been granted a divorce by a local customary court after a magistrate agreed to end the union because the husband stopped having sexual intercourse with his spouse.
Delivering judgement at the Oshogbo Customary Court, its president Chief Gabriel Oparanti dissolved the marriage with immediate effect. Rofiat had told the court that her husband, who insisted on them going their separate ways, had stopped having sexual intercourse with her.
However, Saheed accused his wife of being stubborn, troublesome and that she had never given him peace of mind in the house. He added that Rofiat does not heed to instructions and lacked respect.
Disputing this, Rofiat denied her husband’s claims and instead accused his family of always maltreating her ever since she lost her only child. In tears, she added that it was her in-laws who turned her husband against her.
Rofiat said: “My in-laws are heartless and have been setting my husband against me since I lost my first child and they have not even given my husband another chance to mate with me. Was it my fault that we lost the baby? Or do they think I am happy that I lost my only child?"
