Plateau police get lucky after robber gets his head stick in burglary proof trying to escape

altPOLICE in Plateau State successfully apprehended a robber in the state capital Jos after he ran out of luck and got his head stuck in the burglary-proof railings of the shop he was robbing as he tried to escape.

In a dramatic development which took place on Plateau Club Road in Jos, Solomon Clement, 32, got his head stuck between the bars of the burglar-proof windows in his attempt to escape with stolen items. He had stolen 13 pairs of shoes, three pieces of bed sheets, seven suits and two blankets after he gained access into the shop through the roof the previous night.

Mr Clement had tried to escape through the window but he landed into trouble after successfully forcing his body out of the window but his head was trapped between the burglar-proof bars. He remained there until morning as all efforts he made to get his head out proved abortive.

Passersby were said to have alerted the police about the incident and he was consequently arrested, while the stolen items were recovered. One eyewitness, who simply identified himself as Julius, said that Mr Clement was freed after a welder was employed to cut the bars.

“He was there for hours. We called the police from the A Division who arrested him and out of pity, they got a welder to cut the bars," Julius added.

Another eyewitness added: “This is not the first time burglars attacked shops here. The shop is owned by one Daniel and I learnt he stocked the shop with suits and shoes recently.

“I suspect they connive with insiders, who might have been giving them information. Most times, the burglars break the bars but it was God that orchestrated the man’s arrest."

A local trader himself, the eyewitness urged the police to handle the matter seriously and punish the suspect accordingly. He added that if this is done, maybe other thieves will take caution.

Abuh Emmanuel, the Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, said the suspect would be charged to court when investigations are concluded. He added that Mr Clement is from Agwa Mission, Gudu-Wada in Jos.
