Financed by the church, 140 other couples who had lived together for many years without being legally married were also joined in matrimony yesterday. Giving the couples its full support, the church also provided money for bride prices, wedding gowns for the brides, suits, shirts and ties for the grooms and their teams.
Church general overseer, Pastor Chibuzor Chinyere, said he conducted the wedding ceremony so that the couple and others will not be condemned by God. He added that a lot of couples are living together despite not being married but this is un-Godly and sinful.
Pastor Chinyere said: “I decided to do this because every day, I get sleepless nights because of the amount of people living together when God has not joined them. It is a sin before God. Do you know that one out of every five people you see on the street are living together without being legally married?
"If rapture happens now, they will all miss rapture, so what is the solution? Any of those women can be my sister or maybe she already has five children."
According to the clergyman, many couples do not have the money to legalise their union as even though they may have children, they may not be able to afford the bride price. He stressed that this is why he decided to intervene, so that when the rapture happens they shall not be found wanting.
“What is a church building when the people inside the building have a visa to go to hellfire? Salvation is better than a beautiful church building, which is why I conducted a marriage blessing for 140 couples at the OPM headquarters.
"By the grace of God, I gave them money to pay bride prices. I bought wedding suits and gowns including shirts and tie for 140 couples and paid for their marriage certificates and also food and drinks at the reception, so now I can sleep well knowing that an additional 140 souls have been added to the kingdom of God,” Pastor Chinyere added.
