Lagos cleaner faces lengthy jail term for stealing wristwatch and perfume from employer

altLAGOS cleaner Rhoda Doley is facing the prospect of a lengthy jail term after she was arraigned before the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for stealing a wristwatch and a bottle of Calvin Klein perfume belonging to her employer.

 

Ms Doley, 22, who lives at Abule Ojo Close, Alagbole Akute in Ogun State, was arraigned in court for allegedly stealing a wrist watch and perfume valued at N47,000 (£165). Police inspector Ishola Samuel, told the court that the accused, who was cleaning for one Mrs Funmilayo Daniel-Akinsoto, committed the offence on March 2 at No 25, Coker Road, Ilupeju Lagos.

 

He added: “The accused stole a wrist watch valued at N32, 000 and a Calvin Klein perfume valued at N15,000. The complainant got to know when she did not see the watch inside its pack and suspected the accused and she was apprehended.”

 

Inspector Samuel said that the total value of the stolen property was N47, 000 and that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. When the offence was read to the accused, she pleaded not guilty, so Magistrate A R Onilogbo granted the accused bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to April 6 for mention.
